In many American Indian cultures, the creation stories began with a woman and the life cycles of the feminine energy. This is the focus of this brand strategy, feminine energies, empowerment, the gentle care of motherhood, and the plains identity of the North Dakota native nations. We created a powerful graphic of a mother, a warrior, a proud leader, the foundation of our native way of life. She is within a circular element to create the movement of all life, with a “plains” sun graphic illuminating around her to indicate a healthy way of life. This event was planned to be ran a week ago but had to be rescheduled because we just buried our 14 year old relative Te’a D. LeBeaux…. who tragically took her own life this past week… tough blow on the family, very very sad for her mother Rose, her father Jerome and the brothers and sisters… so it is scheduled for this week to come August 11th, 2010. (Te’a is the pic on the upper left of the flyer).

From the volunteers to the vendors… to supporters and sponsors… to the City of Denver… to the ONE Gathering and Nibwaakaawin staff… to all the bands, talent and stage/sound support… to all the skaters and spectators, this event is ONE event none of us will soon forget… every bit of this day totally rocked!!! … and it was all because of your efforts and your participation.

It was a huge success for this community… we are looking forward to things to come.

Because of the state of the economy we had to narrow our focus to one day of awesome activities on the Denver Skatepark side of things…

ONE BIG DAY event July 10th… ALL eyes on the youth focus. Awesome location in downtown Denver Skatepark!! Our Nations Energies (ONE) – Gathering and the 2010 All Nations Skate Jam Denver Style in conjunction with the international group Biennials of Americas, with Denver as the host city. Booths, booths, booths and a solar stage setup with rockin bands, including our headliner Eudea.

SKAN life movements of Oglala Lakota artist Walt Pourier

The Raven is seen as the messenger of the spirits. “SKAN” is a Lakota word, interpreted as something that moves, spiritual vitality, the force of life itself, something each of us and all of life possess within. It is believed the black birds fly to warn of the approaching storm, of hard times to come… but it is not to create fear, its is to build compassion, togetherness and hope amongst the people, for once the storm passes, we get renewal, this is the “Raven Cry” message.

Walt Pourier, Creative Director of Nakota Designs, is Oglala Lakota, from the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. Walt’s focus, through his art and through the many creative movements he supports, is to share messages of hope, inspiration, and of healthy way of life outlooks. His outreach work, through youth movements, language revitalization, live LIFE campaigns, ECO gatherings, support of feminine energy outlooks, food distribution, ending domestic violence, etc, has reached many, many communities.
